these strange steps
I'm not as complicated as I'll likely make this sound.
I like to cook and find the more I practice, the better I get. I like rainy days because then I don't feel guilty for lazing at home. I'm a big fan of jobs well done and proper punctuation. I don't laugh out loud all too often, but, when I do, it usually comes with tears and smeared mascara.
I appreciate simplicity, but take too long to get ready. I'm pretty darn forgiving, but there are just some things I can't stomach. I love good, good music (KEXP is my current muse). I like bright colors but find myself adorned in blacks and browns more often than not.
I like my space but I also adore my friends. I like conversations that never seem to end but feel as if they've only lasted 5 minutes. I'm a fan of pleasing atmospheres (I know it when I see/feel it...so, so hard to describe). I can't get enough frozen green peas or red grapes.
I'm vegan, and while it'd be great to find someone with similar ideals, I've never limited myself to only dating other vegans/vegetarians. Yet, if you've got issues with vegans, we likely wouldn't mesh well.
Really, I'm just someone with certain likes, certain other dislikes, hang-ups, temptations, quirks, demons, strengths, flaws, tendencies, and countless other aspects. I feel I've come into my own, this year more than ever before. It's a pretty great realization. Ah, if I could go back and shake my 17-year old self and tell her everything will be A-OK...
As for you, you've just got to impress me. It's as simple as that.
My most embarrassing moment was when: a friend in 1st grade wronged me and, when told she'd broken my heart, she (and her friends) guffawed. I couldn't understand why she found that funny, but I remember that awful I-can't-believe-I-said-that feeling in the pit of my stomach.
The meanest thing I have ever done is teased a boy in my 7th grade English class and made him cry. I didn't think he'd actually cry, or that my comments were all too mean. Ah, I blame it on the "bad" girl I was hanging out with at the time.
If I could have a dinner party and invite any four people, dead or alive, the guest list would be: Anne Sexton, Ryan Adams, Jane Austen, and Willem Dafoe.
My favorite Chicago haunts are: the Ginger Man, the Chicago Diner, Empty Bottle, Montrose Harbor, Goldie's, Ten Cat, California Clipper, Pick Me Up Cafe
My radio dial is usually tuned to: KEXP. Streaming internet radio is the way to go! I wish I could go back 12 years, decide to attend school in Seattle, and become an intern at KEXP. That would have been pretty cool.
On a Saturday night you will likely find me: at a show, out to dinner, gadding about with friends, or home watching movies. I'm typically useless on Friday nights because I'm so damn tired from the work week, so Saturdays are my nights to live it up. I find as I get older, however, that I can't live it up nearly as much as I used to.
The last concert I went to was: Freelance Whales / Fanfarlo at Schubas!
My hottest feature is: my nose. It's just the right size. Not sure if that's hot or not, but I'm pretty fond of it.
My favorite tv show to watch as a kid was: Just the 10 of Us. Ooo, or KIDS Incorporated. But there was the new Mickey Mouse Club too (you know, where JT got his start). I watched too much TV as a kid, that's for sure.
Two albums everyone should own are: No, not just two. You should own all of these: Depeche Mode - Violator, James - Laid, New Order - Substance, Verve - A Storm in Heaven, The National - Boxer, Eric's Trip - Love Tara, Cinerama - Va Va Voom, Frightened Rabbit - Midnight Organ Fight...I could go on and on.
My theme song is in between days.
If you have a pet, it better not be one of those really hairy cats that make me sneeze.
If I were a super hero, I would be the Bowler.
The quickest way to my heart is with sharp wit. The quickest way to my bed is with sweet nothings and even more of that wit and in the morning, I like my eggs cooked um, no eggs but tofu will do.
The person I'd like to tell off most is that guy who cuts in front of people in the grocery store, or that woman who turns right in front of buses.
Dancing/fast approaching deadlines/authority figures makes me sweat.
Something I said I'd never do but did anyway was buy a cell phone.
It's Sunday morning at 10 a.m. If I'm not sleeping, I'm attempting to be productive.
